Dear Parents:
This morning at 10:04a.m., we experienced a minor fire in our building. Our alarm system sounded immediately and the building was evacuated within 6 minutes. Thankfully, we had executed two practice drills earlier this school year that helped prepare us for the building emergency today. All students and staff were safely evacuated and accounted for once outside.
The cause of today’s fire was a pizza box that had been placed under a heating lamp in the cafeteria/kitchen. The fire was contained to that area of the school. Emergency personnel were able to locate and extinguish the fire quickly. With the aid of fans provided by the Fire Department, and our large HVAC system, we were able to effectively and efficiently vent fresh air into the building. Once we met the required fresh air requirements, we were given permission by the Fire Captain to re-enter the building at 10:45a.m.
As is common when an emergency like this occurs at school, student accounts will vary. Please know, that we are very confident in the way today’s emergency was handled, and extremely proud of our students and staff for rising to the occasion.
If you should have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to phone me at 303 347-7989.
Sincerely,
